Kivu is a Rwandan specialty coffee grown in the hills of Nyamasheke, on the shores of Lake Kivu, at 1,700 metres above sea level. It comes from the Cyesha washing station, founded in 2022, where more than 470 growers deliver their ripe cherries between March and May.
The washed process and drying on raised African beds produce a clean, elegant cup with a sweet turrón (Spanish nougat) profile, notes of red grape and black tea, and a fresh, sophisticated malic acidity that reflects Rwanda's rise as a specialty origin.

FAQs — Rwanda Kivu
How should I enjoy Rwanda Kivu?
Black is where its turrón-like sweetness and elegance shine brightest. As a filter or V60, the cup is clean and aromatic. It also works well with milk — its natural sweetness rounds out beautifully.
What are the best brew methods?
Filter / V60 / Chemex: Ideal for this coffee — a clean extraction that highlights the turrón and malic acidity.
Mild espresso: Sweet and balanced, with a long aftertaste.
Moka pot / French press: Makes a denser cup with more body.
Is it available whole bean or ground?
Available as whole bean or ground — for espresso, moka pot, filter and French press. Choose your option when adding it to your basket.
Is it a strong or mild coffee?
It's a refined, balanced, medium-intensity coffee. It isn't heavy or bitter — its character is sweet and elegant, with a fresh acidity that makes it very easy to enjoy.
What's the difference between specialty coffee and regular coffee?
Specialty coffee is selected by origin, variety and process, with full traceability back to the farm. It's roasted lighter to preserve the bean's own flavours, without the bitterness of industrial dark roasts.
What is the washed process?
The coffee is pulped and fermented in water before drying on raised African beds. This removes the fruit pulp and produces a clean cup with more defined acidity and more precise notes. It's the process that gives Kivu its elegant, sophisticated profile.
How should I store my coffee?
In a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Not in the fridge. Reseal the bag tightly after each use to prevent oxidation.
What is the shelf life?
Best enjoyed within 9 months of the roast date shown on the bag.
